No sleep.

The wind was howling loudly. It was impossible to sleep. As the winds died down some I did manage to catch a few Z's. We didn't have a battery powered radio so I went out (yes, outside) to the car to listen to the latest weather reports. In between gusts it wasn't bad. The local radio stations, at least, the ones still on, were mostly running on automation. The night deejays had left, and with the weather the way it was, their replacements didn't make it in. I got most of my news (storm coordinates, etc.) from distant AM radio stations.



The Next Morning

Let's just say that things weren't the same. The amount of damage was amazing. Everything was covered with torn leaves, yet the trees still had most of their leaves intact. The yard had the top end of a large tree in it-- the roots were sticking up out of the ground two yards north. It wasn't a small tree.
This mobile home, and both cars parked in front of it, totaled after Fran. This picture was taken in Cary, NC, a Raleigh suburb. Smashed by fallen pine trees, a mobile home and vehicles
