Tech News

CNET Today - Technology News. The best source of broad technology news. More detailed than non-tech sources.

Technology Review MIT's Magazine of Innovation. Some computer technology, but lots of interesting stuff.

Welcome to PC World.com. Some information, but lots of filler.

Search Engines,
General

My Yahoo! Big, general search engine. Gobs of everything. Pages arranged as subcategories of subcategories, on and on. Advertizing heavy.

Dogpile. Strange search engine. Advertizing.

HotBot. Part of Terra and Lycos now. Oh well.... Has advertizing galore.

Lycos. The better of the big search engines. Lots of ads.

Excite. Their strong point is a customizable start page that actually has some decent options. Their email used to have a forwarding option. Now it's another "http" access only. The whole site nearly sinks from the weight of the advertizing.

Search Engine,
Advanced

Lycos Advanced Search. Was faster, with less crap. This was the skilled knife of search engines. Terra changed things--- can't find an advanced search anywhere on Lycos now.

Stuff

Slashdot.net - The portal. Everything under one digital roof.

Open Market The Internet Index Home Page.

Webopedia Online Computer Dictionary for Internet Terms and Technical Support. Great reference.

hands off the net. Keep the net free! Keep government, religious, and business interests under control.

Country Codes and Their Domain Extensions. You might know what .uk or .ca means, but when you can't figure out where a site domain extension is, this has the answer.

Homestead - Free Web Sites. Free web page hosting. You can layout anything where you want it with their WYSIWYG web page generator. The code is sloppy which makes it download slower, but it works. Too bad you can't upload your own HTML. Too many ads.

Tripod. Features a basic web page builder using templates, as well as more advanced options. Free web page hosting with advertizing including annoying pop-ups. Features CGI bin which allows you to use your own scripts. Can be accessed for uploading through both a hypertext page and file tranfer protocols. Ideal for first-time web page builders as well as more advanced users.

Domain
Registration

ICANN List of Accreditation-Qualified Registrars. Who you can register your own domain name with.

TotalNIC dotCOM Network Information Center - Discounted half price .COM domain name registrations - Index. The name says it all.

CNET.com - Welcome to CNET!. Check out their downloads. Pay, shareware, demo, and free.... the whole grab bag. Older Windows operating systems have the most freeware.

htmlGEAR - Welcome. Lots of information about HTML.

Javascript

JavaScript Primers. Learn Javascript.

Webmonkey programming javascript. A better introduction for the beginner Javascript coder.

Perl

www.perl.com - Perl Regular Expressions. Complete reference for Perl coding.

The Regular Expression Rundown. Easier reference. Still not for the beginner.

Delphi

The Delphi Source. Not all it's billed as.

Delphi32.com -- The Premier Source for Delphi Developers!. Mostly advertizing, but useful stuff too.

Delphi Tips. People can share information and advice, but there isn't that much activity on the their boards. Some general information is useful.
